| The name JIVRAJ means King of Souls, his father Champshi was an Ismaili from Birth. The main activity of Jivraj (Bhagat) was growing and selling vegetables; but as he became older he was also famous in the District of Babra (his birthplace) as a Healer. He was known to hold the wrist of a person and be able to determine what illness they were suffering, for which he then provided or advised what the cure or medication for the illness was to be taken, free of charge. Jivraj was known to wake early and walk around the village carrying a lantern waking Ismailis to attend Jamatkhana for morning prayers. He was always in Jamatkhana, morning and evening without fail. He was known for his love of horses, and till the end of his life he could be seen riding all around the district on a white stallion. During the India-Pakistan seperation in 1948, the house of Jivraj was taken by the Government; as it was never formally re-registered, finally the house was demolished. The huge plot of Jivraj land adjacent to the house in the past does not exist anymore, as it has been used for residential and commercial development. In November 1991, The Aga Khan of the Shia Imami Ismailis consented and suggested himself to name the new Health Sciences Library at the Aga Khan University Hospital in Karachi Pakistan (even though He informed that He knew all family members used different surnames), as Jivraj Health Sciences Library, in honour of the Jivraj family and gave His blessings at the same time to all the Jivraj progeny and family members. The Library was donated by the Haiderali Ramji Jivraj family, in the name of the parents Ramji Jivraj Charania and Hirbai. Jivraj lived till the age of 98, and was not known to be sick or sufferng from any illness. |
